What the Captions does

Captions are timed text bars that appear at the bottom (or any edge) of the canvas during playback, synchronized to specific time ranges on the timeline. They are styled like video subtitles but fully customizable in terms of position, color, background, and font. Use them to add spoken-word style explanations to your chart videos without a voiceover.

Included on every plan, including Free.

How to use the Captions

  1. Add a Caption layer and set its start and end time on the timeline to control when it appears.
  2. Type your caption text. Set position, background color, padding, and font size.
  3. Captions appear and disappear smoothly. Multiple captions can be chained across the timeline.

When to use it

  • Replace a voiceover with caption text for a silent educational chart video.
  • Add accessibility subtitles to a chart analysis video for a broader audience.
  • Create timed annotations that explain each chart element as it appears.

Tips

  • Use a consistent background color for all captions to create visual cohesion.
  • Keep each caption to one sentence and time it to about 3-4 seconds for easy reading.
  • Position captions in the upper third when the bottom is occupied by a timeline or label.
