How to Track Trading Course Conversions from YouTube (Complete Setup)

ChartAnimator Team·May 14, 2026·7 min read

You have a trading course. You promote it on YouTube. Someone buys. But which video drove that sale? Without a tracking system, you will never know — and you will keep making content based on guesses rather than revenue data. This guide covers the complete setup for tracking trading course conversions from YouTube, from first click to confirmed purchase.

Why Standard YouTube Analytics Cannot Track Course Sales

YouTube Analytics shows you clicks on cards and end screens within YouTube. It does not track what happens after a viewer clicks a link in your description and leaves YouTube. Once they are on your sales page, YouTube loses visibility. This means every course sale that originates from a description link appears in your payment platform as a sale with no source — untraceable back to the specific video that generated it.

The Three-Part Tracking System

  • Part 1 — Tracked links: Unique URLs placed in each video description that capture clicks, the source video ID, and timestamp before redirecting to your sales page
  • Part 2 — UTM parameters: Optional additional layer that passes video source data into your payment platform's analytics
  • Part 3 — Revenue pixel: A single line of JavaScript on your course thank-you page that fires a confirmed sale event and links it back to the source click

Step 1: Generate Tracked Links for Every Video

For each video that promotes your trading course, generate a unique tracked link rather than using your direct sales page URL. In RevData, this is done by entering your sales page URL and the video name — the system generates a unique redirect URL that you paste into your description. The redirect is instant and invisible to the viewer. Do this for your entire catalogue, not just new videos — your older high-view videos are likely generating untracked sales right now.

Step 2: Install the Revenue Pixel

Navigate to your course thank-you page — the page that appears immediately after a successful purchase. Add the RevData revenue pixel script (a single line of JavaScript) to this page's header. If your course is hosted on Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, or Podia, this takes under two minutes using their custom code section. If you use a custom checkout, paste the script before the closing </body> tag. Once active, every completed purchase fires a sale event to your RevData dashboard.

Step 3: Update Your Video Descriptions

Replace your existing sales page links with tracked links in every video description. Start with your 20 highest-view videos — these are where most of your unattributed revenue is coming from. YouTube allows you to bulk-edit descriptions in YouTube Studio, which speeds this process up significantly. Include the tracked link in the first two lines of the description for maximum visibility.

Step 4: Read the Data After 30 Days

After 30 days with tracking active, your dashboard shows: total clicks from each video, sales attributed to each video, revenue attributed to each video, conversion rate per video (clicks to sales), and Revenue Per View for each video. Sort by Revenue column. The result is the first accurate ranking of your content by business value you have ever had.

Common Setup Mistakes

  • Putting the revenue pixel on the sales page instead of the thank-you page: the pixel must fire on purchase confirmation, not on page visit
  • Only setting up tracking for new videos: your high-view older videos are likely your biggest untracked revenue source
  • Using the same tracked link for multiple videos: each video needs its own unique link to attribute sales correctly
  • Forgetting mobile: test your tracked link on mobile before updating all descriptions — most trading YouTube traffic is mobile
