Trading YouTube Channel Monetisation Milestones: What to Focus on at Every Stage

ChartAnimator Team·May 14, 2026·8 min read

Most trading YouTubers try to activate every revenue stream at once. They launch a course at 500 subscribers, open a Discord at 2,000, add affiliate links at 5,000, and wonder why nothing is gaining traction. The reality is that the right monetisation strategy depends entirely on where you are in your channel's growth. This guide maps out exactly what to focus on at each stage — and which metrics tell you whether it is working.

Stage 1: 0–1,000 Subscribers — Content Validation

At this stage, your primary goal is not revenue — it is figuring out which of your content topics generates the highest viewer response. Do not spend time on course creation, membership platforms, or affiliate setup. Instead: publish at least 2 videos per week, test at least 5 different topic clusters, and track average view duration and subscriber gain per video. The metric to watch: subscriber-per-view ratio. A ratio above 1.5% means a topic has audience growth potential.

Stage 2: 1,000–5,000 Subscribers — Monetisation Foundations

You now have enough data to know what your audience responds to. This is when to set up affiliate tracking (prop firms, brokers) and a lead magnet. Do not launch a premium course yet — your audience is too small to validate pricing and conversion rates. Focus on: setting up tracked links in all video descriptions, installing RevData to start building attribution data, and collecting email subscribers with a relevant lead magnet. At this stage, revenue should be $200–$800/month primarily from affiliate commissions.

Stage 3: 5,000–15,000 Subscribers — Launch Your First Product

With 5,000+ subscribers and 60+ days of attribution data, you now know which content converts to clicks and which converts to email subscribers. This is the right time to launch your first trading course or membership. Price it based on your conversion data: if your tracked link CTR is above 3%, you have a high-intent audience and can price at $497+. Launch to your email list first before promoting in YouTube descriptions. Target: $1,000–$5,000/month in product revenue by end of this stage.

Stage 4: 15,000–50,000 Subscribers — Systematise and Scale

At this stage, you have proof that your channel converts to revenue. The question is how to scale without burning out. Focus on: identifying your top 5 revenue-generating video topics (from RevData attribution data) and building a quarterly content calendar exclusively around those topics, batch-producing content (4+ videos per production day), and raising your course price — most creators underprice at this stage.

Stage 5: 50,000–100,000+ Subscribers — High-Ticket and Team

At 50,000+ subscribers with proven conversion data, you are ready for high-ticket offers ($2,500–$10,000 coaching programmes) and sponsorship revenue. Sponsors pay dramatically more when you can provide attribution data — knowing that your audience converts at 3.5% CTR and 1.8% sales rate gives you negotiating leverage no view count alone provides. This is also when to hire a video editor and content assistant so you can focus on strategy and product delivery.

The Metric That Matters at Every Stage

Revenue Per View is the one metric that scales with you through every stage of channel growth. At 1,000 subscribers it tells you which early content converts. At 100,000 subscribers it tells you which sponsorship deals are actually profitable. Track it from day one and you will always know whether your channel is moving in the right direction regardless of where you are in the growth journey.
