How to Track YouTube Sales as a Trading Educator

ChartAnimator Team·May 10, 2026·7 min read

If you sell a trading course, mentorship, or subscription service and you use YouTube to get customers, you have a tracking problem. YouTube knows how many people watched your video. Your payment processor knows how many people bought. Neither system knows about the other, and the gap between them is costing you money every single week.

Why You Can't Track YouTube Sales With Standard Tools

YouTube Analytics shows impressions, views, watch time, and thumbnail CTR. It does not show what happens after someone clicks your description link. Google Analytics can show traffic to your website but can't tell you which YouTube video sent that traffic unless you've set up UTM parameters manually on every link, which most creators don't. Your payment processor records the transaction but has no idea how the buyer found you. Three completely disconnected systems, zero revenue attribution.

The Solution: Tracked Links + Revenue Pixel

Connecting these systems requires two pieces working together. Tracked links replace your raw sales page URL in every video description. When someone clicks, the system logs the click against that specific video: timestamp, source video, and session ID. The revenue pixel is one line of code placed on your post-purchase thank-you page. When it fires, it looks up the session, finds the tracked link that started it, and records a sale against that video.

Step 1: Generate a Tracked Link for Each Video

Instead of pasting your raw sales page URL into your description, you generate a tracked version through RevData. When someone clicks it, the click is logged, the source video is recorded, the timestamp is captured, and the visitor is redirected to your actual sales page instantly. Do this for every video, including old ones. Start with your top 20 highest-view videos first.

Step 2: Install the Revenue Pixel

On your checkout thank-you page, paste a single JavaScript snippet. This is a 30-second job in most platforms. Paste it into the custom code or tracking scripts section of your confirmation page settings.

  • Kajabi: custom code block on thank-you page
  • Thinkific: site footer scripts
  • Shopify: additional scripts in checkout settings
  • Any custom website: paste in the head of your confirmation page

Step 3: Read Your Attribution Dashboard

Once both pieces are in place, your dashboard shows per-video: views, clicks, link CTR (clicks ÷ views), sales (completed purchases attributed to that video), and revenue (total money generated). You now know, for every video on your channel, exactly how much money it has made.

What Good Attribution Data Reveals

The most common discovery when trading educators first connect proper attribution: their bestselling video isn't their most viewed video. Typically the top 3 videos by revenue represent 60–70% of total tracked sales, despite accounting for only 15–20% of total views. Once you know which videos those are, your content strategy becomes simple: study what they have in common and replicate it deliberately.

Tracking Sales From Older Videos

Don't just set up tracking for new videos. Your back catalogue is already generating views. Many of those viewers are potential buyers you're currently losing. Go back through your 20 highest-view videos, generate a tracked link for each, and update the descriptions. Within 30 days you'll have attribution data on your existing audience without producing a single new video. This is often where the most valuable data comes from.

How to Interpret Link CTR for a Trading Channel

Link CTRWhat It Indicates
Under 0.5%Link is buried, CTA is weak, or offer doesn't match the video
0.5–1.5%Average: room to improve with CTA placement and copy
1.5–3%Good: audience trusts you and the offer is relevant
3–5%Strong: well-matched content, clear CTA, engaged audience
5%+Exceptional: highly specific video with directly relevant offer
