How to Track Which YouTube Video Makes the Most Sales (Trading Channels)

ChartAnimator Team·May 14, 2026·7 min read

You publish 50 videos. Someone buys your trading course. Which video convinced them? Without attribution tracking, you have no idea. You are making content decisions based on views and likes — not revenue. This guide explains the exact system trading creators use to connect every sale back to the specific video that generated it.

Why Views and Watch Time Miss the Point

YouTube's native analytics tells you how many people watched each video, their average view duration, click-through rate, and subscriber gain. None of these numbers tell you how much money each video made. A video with 50,000 views and 4% CTR might generate zero sales. A video with 8,000 views might be responsible for 60% of your revenue. Without revenue attribution, you cannot tell the difference — and you will keep optimising for the wrong metric.

The Two-Part Attribution System

Revenue attribution for YouTube requires two tracking signals working together: a tracked link in your video description, and a revenue pixel on your thank-you page. The tracked link records who clicked, from which video, at what time. The revenue pixel fires when a purchase completes, recording the sale. When these two data points are combined in your analytics dashboard, you can see a complete path from video view to paid customer — for every video in your catalogue.

Setting Up Tracked Links

Instead of pasting your raw sales page URL into your video descriptions, you generate a unique tracked version for each video. When a viewer clicks the link, the click is logged with the source video ID and a timestamp, then the viewer is redirected to your sales page with no perceptible delay. Set up tracked links for your top 20 highest-view videos first — these are where most of your unattributed revenue is coming from right now.

Setting Up the Revenue Pixel

The revenue pixel is a single line of JavaScript added to your thank-you page — the page a buyer sees immediately after completing a purchase. When this page loads, the pixel fires and records a confirmed sale. If the buyer arrived via one of your tracked links, that sale is automatically attributed to the correct source video in your dashboard. Setup takes under five minutes and requires no developer.

What the Data Looks Like After 30 Days

After 30 days with both tracking systems active, your dashboard shows a row for every video in your catalogue with: total views, total link clicks, click-through rate, number of attributed sales, and total attributed revenue. You will almost always find that 20% of your videos are responsible for 80% of your revenue — and that the top revenue drivers are often not your highest-view videos.

Fibonacci Golden Pocket Setup61,0004880.8%3$210
Liquidity Sweep Strategy15,0008255.5%22$1,540

In this example, the 61,000-view Fibonacci video generates only $210. The 15,000-view Liquidity Sweep video generates $1,540. Without attribution tracking, you would double down on Fibonacci content. With tracking, you know to make more Liquidity Sweep videos.

How to Use This Data to Plan Content

  • Sort your catalogue by Revenue (not by Views) — this is the correct ranking for a monetised channel
  • Look at the top 5 revenue-generating videos: what topic, format, and title structure do they share?
  • Look at your top-view / low-revenue videos: these may be great for audience growth but should not be your monetisation priority
  • Update the descriptions of high-view / low-revenue videos with better tracked links and stronger CTAs
  • Plan your next 4 videos around the topic patterns of your top revenue drivers
