The difference between an amateur trading video and a professional one often comes down to the background. Flat black or plain dark backgrounds work — but ambient glow effects create depth, warmth, and a cinematic feel that viewers associate with premium content.
ChartAnimator's Glow Orb tool lets you place one or more ambient light orbs anywhere on your canvas. Stack a purple orb on the left and a cyan orb on the right and you have a backdrop that looks like it took hours in After Effects — it takes about 30 seconds.
What Is a Glow Orb?
A Glow Orb is a soft radial gradient circle with a Gaussian blur applied to it. The blur turns a sharp shape into a diffused cloud of colour — exactly like the ambient light blobs you see behind Apple product pages, fintech dashboards, and pro-level YouTube thumbnails.
Setting Up Your First Orb
- Open the Tools panel in ChartAnimator and click Teaching Tools → Glow Orb
- Click 'Add to Canvas' — a fuchsia orb appears centred on your canvas
- Drag it to the corner, edge, or wherever you want the light source
- Adjust Color, Size, and Blur in the Appearance section to taste
- Add a second orb with a contrasting color for a dual-tone background

Pro Tips
- Set blur to 120–200px for a soft wash that doesn't compete with your chart — lower blur (30–60px) creates a tighter, more dramatic spotlight effect
- Use Size at 40–60% with high blur for a large ambient wash; use 15–25% with lower blur for a focused accent
- The Pulse animation gives the orb a slow breathing effect — great for intro screens and lower thirds
- Stack 2–3 orbs at low opacity rather than one bright orb — the layering creates more depth
- Place orbs at opposite corners with complementary colors (e.g. violet bottom-left, blue top-right) for a gradient-room effect without using a gradient background
- Use the Shape controls to squish the orb horizontally (Width × 2.0, Height × 0.5) to create a horizon glow along the bottom of the screen
Keyframe Animation
Glow Orbs support full keyframe animation. You can animate color, size, blur, and position over time. A common technique: start with a large dim orb and keyframe it to shrink and brighten as your chart reveal animation begins — it draws the eye to the centre of the canvas at exactly the right moment.
