How to Start a Trading YouTube Channel From Zero (2026 Guide)

ChartAnimator Team·May 10, 2026·10 min read

Trading YouTube is one of the most viable content business models available to retail traders in 2026. Finance channels earn $15 to $22 CPM from ad revenue alone, and trading creators who sell their own courses or mentorships are generating $5,000 to $50,000 per month from audiences that are a fraction of the size you would need in any other niche. This guide walks you through exactly how to start, from choosing your niche to uploading your first video.

Step 1: Choose a Specific Niche, Not a Broad Topic

The biggest mistake new trading channels make is being too broad. 'Trading tips' is not a niche. It is a category with hundreds of millions of competing videos. A niche is specific enough that a viewer immediately knows whether the channel is for them. Good niche examples: ICT methodology for beginners, options trading with small accounts, forex scalping with Smart Money Concepts, crypto swing trading setups.

Step 2: Set Up Your Channel Correctly

  • Channel name: either your personal name (builds personal brand) or a niche descriptor (easier to rank but harder to evolve)
  • Channel art: professional banner with your niche clearly stated. No generic stock photos.
  • About section: first 2 sentences should contain your core keyword and who the channel is for. YouTube and Google index this text.
  • Channel trailer: a 60 to 90 second video explaining exactly who you help and what they will learn. This converts new visitors to subscribers.

Step 3: Plan Your First 10 Videos

Your first 10 videos establish what your channel is about to both YouTube's algorithm and your earliest subscribers. Do not post randomly. Plan 10 videos around 3 to 4 core topics that all relate directly to your niche. This builds topical authority, which is how YouTube decides to show your videos to people interested in your subject.

  1. Videos 1 to 3: foundation concepts in your niche. These are high-search-volume topics that introduce new viewers.
  2. Videos 4 to 6: intermediate strategy breakdowns. More specific, showing your actual methodology.
  3. Videos 7 to 9: real trade examples and live analysis. These build credibility and trust.
  4. Video 10: your channel introduction or most important teaching. Pinned to your channel page.

Step 4: Produce Videos That Look Professional

Production quality is a trust signal. Viewers deciding whether to subscribe are asking: does this person take their channel seriously? Animated chart videos signal professionalism immediately. A clean animated chart breakdown of a trade setup, with captions and clear narration, positions you above 90% of trading channels in terms of perceived quality, even as a brand-new creator with no subscribers.

Step 5: Publish Consistently for 90 Days

Most trading channels fail because creators quit in month 2 when views are low. The YouTube algorithm takes 60 to 90 days to understand a new channel and start distributing it. During this period, your videos are being indexed and categorised. Creators who post consistently for the full 90 days and then check their analytics almost always see a clear uptick in views and subscribers at that point. The ones who quit in month 2 never see it.
