Spotlight Tool
Dim the surrounding canvas and focus attention on exactly what you want your audience to see.
What the Spotlight Tool does
The Spotlight Tool places a full-canvas dim overlay with a transparent "hole" that keeps one focused area at full brightness while everything else fades to near-black. Use it to isolate a single candle, highlight one section of a multi-setup chart, or guide your audience step-by-step through a complex trade without the distraction of surrounding price action. The hole can be a rectangle with rounded corners or a smooth ellipse, and the entire effect fades in and out cleanly at configurable speeds. Because the spotlight renders as a standard timeline layer, you can stack multiple spotlights to shift focus across different areas of the chart throughout a single video.
Available on Creator.
How to use the Spotlight Tool
- Select Spotlight from Teaching Tools in the Tools Panel. The overlay is immediately added as a full-canvas layer (1280×720) at the current timeline position.
- In the Spotlight settings panel, choose Rectangle or Ellipse as the hole shape.
- Adjust Focus Position (Left / Top offsets) and Focus Size (Width / Height) to position the bright window exactly over the element you want to highlight.
- Set Dim Strength (how dark the surrounding area becomes) and choose a Dim Colour - pure black for cinema-style focus, or a dark tint that matches your chart background.
- Configure Fade In and Fade Out durations so the dim effect eases on and off rather than cutting instantly.
- Trim the layer on the timeline to control exactly how long the spotlight holds before releasing.
When to use it
- Isolate a single entry candle on a busy chart to draw the eye directly to the setup.
- Show three trade examples side by side, then spotlight each one in turn - dimming the other two while you explain it.
- Highlight a specific supply or demand zone on a fully-drawn chart without having to remove other annotations.
- Create a step-by-step trade walkthrough where the spotlight moves from the setup zone to the entry candle to the target level.
- Use on a chart packed with indicators to hide the noise and reveal just the signal you are teaching.
Tips
- Set Dim Strength between 70–85% for a focused but not total blackout - the audience can still sense the surrounding context.
- Use Ellipse shape for a softer, more cinematic spotlight feel; Rectangle works better for charts where you want clean region boundaries.
- Stack two Spotlight layers back-to-back on the timeline - first spotlight over the setup area, second over the entry candle - to walk through a two-step explanation.
- Match Fade In / Fade Out to your speaking pace. A 0.5s fade sounds natural when paired with voice narration. Use 0.0s for a sharp, dramatic reveal.
- Combine with Numbered Point Annotations: place the numbers first, then add a spotlight to highlight each numbered point in sequence.
- Corner Radius on Rectangle mode at 12–20px gives a softer "window" feel that reads better on smaller screens.
